In 1987 I got to visit Xanadu and of course as any techno-geek. I fell head over heels in love with
the idea of a Smart Home. Back then although the technology was in fact available Xanadu was
mostly smoke and mirrors, but it still made quite an impression on me.
The next time I got to revisit Xanadu was in 2004 when time vandals and the elements had taken its
toll on the once proud house. One of the things that impressed me the most was that even though it
was the middle of summer and about 97 degrees outside, it was a nice comfy 75 degrees inside
Xanadu who at the time sat with broken windows, and no power of any kind.
In 2005 the home of tomorrow was destroyed to make way for yet another Florida Condo
project, and all that stands today is the sign. Although the architect and creator are gone, I will
keep the memory going with my tribute to the place that started it all for me Xanadu the home of
the Future.
